Sisters of Charity of Ottawa

D'Youville Senior Care, formerly known as "D'Youville Manor," was founded in 1960 by the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa, popularly known as the Grey Nuns of the Cross. D'Youville was established in the spirit of Saint Marguerite d'Youville, the original foundress of all branches of Grey Nuns. The Sisters of Charity of Ottawa was established as an autonomous branch of the Grey Nuns by Elisabeth Bruyere in 1845. The sisters have served the Greater Lowell community since 1880, making a difference in thousands of lives by providing a high standard of excellence in nursing care and education.

In the late 1950's Sister Andre Corsini became the Provincial Superior of the sisters in Lowell and was given a mandate by the General Council to see to the needs of the elderly. The Sisters of Charity of Ottawa have remained as our sponsor ever since D'Youville's inception.

Today, the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa are led in the Greater Lowell area by Provincial Superior, Sister Pauline Leblanc, s.c.o.

Sister Pauline has been an integral member of the Province Leadership Team since 2004. She has dedicated 24 years in secondary education as a teacher in both Lowell and Canada. She also worked in pastoral formation as assistant to the Bishops of the Archdiocese of Boston and in the Diocese of Daru-Kiunga in Papua New Guinea.  She plays an important role in the Greater Lowell Interfaith Leadership Alliance and in the Merrimack Valley Project to bring about social change.

Sister Pauline currently directs Bachand Hall in a program that partners with the Department of Social Services to offer hospitality and guidance to young women who have outgrown the foster care system but are still in need of a supportive, enriching environment.

“My vision is that through the elder care services offered on the D’Youville campus, the mission of compassionate care will continue as a priority and a lived reality. I remain committed to supporting the mission on every level and working with all of the personnel at D’Youville to bring it about.”
