Partnerships

D'Youville recognizes the wealth of talent throughout Greater Lowell. We strive to build relationships with other organizations to continuously identify new opportunities that will enhance the quality of care we provide for our residents. Programs range from educational and social activities for our residents to skilled training for our staff and internships for students from local schools and colleges.

Lowell High School

Students in the Communication Academy at Lowell High School have filmed the programs for D'Youville's continuing cable series, "For the Young at Heart." The half hour programs are shown in Andover, Chelmsford, Dracut, Lawrence, Lowell, Tewksbury, Tyngsboro and Westford and focus on areas of importance to seniors.

Lowell Historical Society

D'Youville is a Corporate Member of the Lowell Historical Society. Our facility serves as an important example in the rich history of community service.

Merrimack Education Center

The Merrimack Education Center (MEC) is a job coach program that serves challenged young adults throughout the Merrimack Valley, enabling them to enter the work environment to learn basic work ethics and skills. MEC students volunteer at D'Youville 2-4 days per week, helping in a variety of departments including housekeeping, laundry, and activities.

Middlesex Community College

Students in the RN program at Middlesex Community College receive leadership, management, and clinical experience in D'Youville's Transitional Care Unit. MCC's dental hygiene students also visit D'Youville to perform oral assessments, oral cancer screenings and provide patient education as needed.

St. Joseph School of Nursing and Greater Lowell Regional Vocational Technical High School

D'Youville partners with 2 local schools to help train over 100 students per year in a variety of nursing programs. Co-op programs may last one week or several weeks with some students coming in daily and others two times a week. We help train health aides, CNA's (certified nursing assistants) and LPNs. Some students are actually hired by D'Youville and are paid while they learn.

University of Massachusetts Lowell

The University of Massachusetts Lowell has partnered with D'Youville on many occasions to bring educational classes to our residents. The Exercise Program was successful in helping residents improve muscle strength which in turn improves self image and enhances independence. More recently, residents have been learning about the Internet and how to use e-mail in our weekly Internet Boot Camp class taught by Professor Patrick Scollin.

D'Youville also serves as an internship site for students from the University's School of Health and Environment.  The interns are able to learn about nursing home operations first-hand in a program tailored to their individual interests.

Several researchers at the University serve as presenters for the D'Youville U continuing education program, providing our staff with the latest information on topics such as Macular Degeneration, Osteoporosis, and Cardiac Rehabilitation.
